about

This album tells of the 12 500 miles-long road-trip that has led from Peru, down the Chilean coast, across the Andes, through Argentina, to Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil, Bolivia and Peru.
It was written on the banks of rivers, in the middle of forests and the heart of valleys of the South-American continent and is about a search, a quest for the self. It reflects the moments of doubt and uncertainty that come with it, but also the moments of euphoria and well-being.
Places (the Quebradas of La Higuiera where the Che was murdered), people (Father Angel, the Kids, Mme Irma) and experiences (San Pedro, the crossing of the Bolson) have shaped these songs.
Let me take you on a journey...

Track Name: To the end of the world
Well I’d like to take you on a journey
Well I’d like to take you on a trip
Well I’d like to take you on a journey, make you hear what I have heard
Tag along, take along, take a long look at the end of the world
It’s the end of the world as I know it
As for reality I have a new one, it has blown me away
You might say I’m highly undiscerned
You might say I’m highly unburdened
You might say I’m highly unconcerned
By everything that’s going round outside in the real world
But wait till you´ve heard

Ain´t this here just a beautiful place, full of sunshine and beauty and grace
And the valley´s stretching out and the trees in the sunshine
Oh beautiful valley, I´d like to make you mine

Well I’d like to take you on a journey
Well I’d like to take you on a trip
Well I’d like to take you on a journey, make you see what I have seen
In the mountains playing hide but not to be sought
Not to be thought of, to be sorted out, besotted with the end of the world
It’s the end of the world as I know it
As for reality I have a new one, I can show it to you
You might say I’m highly unsound
You might say I’m highly confounded
You might say I’m highly unbound
By everything that’s going round outside of my dream
But wait till you’ve seen

Ain´t this here just a beautiful scene, full of sunshine and beauty and dream
And the moment´s stretching out, and the visions are streaming
In beautiful sequences, I´d like to make mine

To the end of the world
To the end of the world

Ain´t this life just a beautiful one, full of beauty and grace and sun
Endless space calls me, endlessness calls me
Oh beautiful fate although I am afraid
I´d like to see it all
I´d like to see it all
Track Name: Learn about the days
Thought I knew better, than anyone I’d known
Thought I’d seen more, than anyone I’d seen
Thought I lived enough to have it all said
But thoughts worth writing weren’t nowhere yet

Oh what a beautiful longing, oh what a beautiful tongue
But what rang true inside left me empty and trite
Oh what a beautiful yearning, oh what a burning desire
But hard as I tried once outside the fire died down
Oh all of that knowledge, the words of others that I’ve learnt by heart
But I had to burn my books and forget them to start
To give life to grace
I have to learn about the days

It is only up to me to find out what can be found
What can be found bout the beauty and the sound there is
On an on, what a long winding road I’ll have to go down
To see my eyes finally raised
To see my eyes finally gaze
For my eyes to see through the haze
To see but a trace of something like grace
I have to learn about the days

So that one day when I dwell with the weight of long-lost youth
And finally unburdened may find the hurt to be soothed
That I may be certain that I left enough behind
And that for my mind there was nothing more to find

And when my future is nothing but my past
And my eyes are finally downcast
And when at death’s final behest
I lay my weary head down to rest
That moment may I be blessed
With the knowledge that I did my best
Track Name: In the thick of things
Oh Honey don’t you weigh on me
Cause I haven’t got the time
Cause I’m leaving tomorrow
Maybe today

Oh Honey don’t you wanna stand by me
Honey don’t you wanna see
Eat one last time at Madame Irma’s
Pack up our tent and follow the firmament
But if you can’t, it ain’t something that I can blame you for
Cause darling I will head into the thick of things

Oh Honey don’t you worry for me
That's too much luxury
I’m deserting my comfort
I’ll come forth with nothing

Oh Honey don’t you wanna walk by my side
Honey don’t you wanna get high,
We'll be chewing coca-leaves in the Quebradas
where Guerilleros turned into martyrs
But hard as it comes across, life might have to part us
Cause darling, I long for the thick of things
I belong in the thick of things

Oh Honey don’t you wanna lay on me
There’s space in this hammock for two
This riverbed is dried out and lonely
And if only you could honey,
but if not, then there can be, no you and me
Cause darling, I am in the thick of things
I am in the thick of things
Track Name: Feed My Head
It’s all just talk, talk, talk,
But no one seems to know which way to walk
I get so low, get so high, wondering why

I know that could have easily stayed
With my bloodshot eyes and my dread
In the afternoon couches and beds
But I asked life instead
To feed my head

What did I see when I looked at the skies
I don’t know cause I closed my eyes
A starlit abyss distant over my head
I’d fall into if I took a step
Feed my head

I saw the writing within the fire
Like ancient scripture it read
Telling tales of fate and desire
Telling me that I had to get higher
To feed my head

There’s so much that you can find, so much to leave behind
Attached to all those things that bind you, gotta free your mind
Everything is in your mind
Gotta carry on to where your mind can finally be free

Mescaline riding straight into my mind
Leaving me without reason or rhyme
Peeling of layers of sceptical disbelief
Till nothing was left but my bare naked me

Things dragged me down, so I burned them and choked them
And watched through the spiralling smoke as my mind freely soared
Try, gotta try, there’s nothing but barriers to my mind
I’ve gotta free my mind
I have gotta fly away, gotta take to the sky today
Gotta take the sun in my hand, and then run till the end

It’s all just talk, talk, talk
Track Name: Into the Days
I used to ponder and yearn
Turned towards the past and concerns
Desiring and aspiring for something of a heaven on earth
Now the pyre of the past is burned
Winds and tides have a-turned
A new fire inside as I ride to the end of the world

And it doesn’t matter if it’s rain or sunshine I weather
I get on by with this lay
Dwelling a part of the way
Leaving to smile from the roads that lead into the days

The sun will be sinking, slowly fading the light
And all I will have left to remember this time
Will be these everlasting thoughts of mine
Never lasting longer than the night
So I will keep on going
To see the whole wide universe unfurled
Infinity showing in every grain of sand
As I hold in my hand the end of the world

And it doesn’t matter if it’s rain or sunshine I weather
I get on by with this lay
Dwelling apart of the way
Leaving to smile from the roads that lead into the days
Track Name: Free as a bird on the wing
They scarred the earth and bled it, treaded it to mud,
marred and shredded its guts
But I keep on walking nonetheless,
on the lookout for the last of the beautiful places

Though it burns my eyes like mace, keep up my pace and pray
For more of this day, hoping that it may
Keep pouring all its beauty into my face
Keep pouring this beauty into my face

They shot Abraham Lincoln; shot honest Abe’s hope,
shot Lennon and Gandhi
and in short forfeited our shot at a better world that we could have got I walk with the weight of their wraith upon my back
But I walk towards the future with hope and an eighth
With a little voice at the core of my faith that never relents and says: Keep pouring this beauty into my faith
Keep pouring this beauty into my faith

If life ain't nothing but a day and I ain’t nothing but a dying thought
Well an endless restless feeling has crossed my mind today
And the spirit’s rejuvenating to the grooving rhythm of youth forever moving on
And there’s a resonating beat, that’s the beating of my heart
a path of light through the dark, leading up to a different world
And the hurriedness I’ve felt is buried with before
I ain’t got no worries anymore
I’m free as a bird on the wing

I don’t have any worries, I don’t have no worries
but the road a-stretching on
Don’t think I’ll take it straight
Keep on walking on, as an oblate believer, relieved and emboldened Shaking off this miserable weight and walking elated with unsated desire
Keep pouring this beauty into my fate
Keep pouring this beauty into my fate

Cause I ain’t got nothing to worry about
Got nothing but the sun upon my face,
got nothing but desire and this beautiful place
I’m happy to be walking under the sun,
happy to be yonder where I should have come
Happy to be walking on and on,
happy to be walking endlessly on
Cause I ain’t got nothing to worry about today
No, I ain’t got nothing to worry about today
Track Name: White Moonshine River
White Moonshine River’s stretching far as it goes to see
Edging slowly silver stream
Forever holding me
And for the first time I see
For the first time I see

White Moonshine River's weaving through ripples and tides
Changing me from where I lies and my disbelieving eyes
And for the first time I believe
For the first time I believe

White Moonshine River's tears bound to disappear
But in the infinite of now and here
I feel no fear
And I live for centuries
and I live for centuries
Track Name: Bloody Sunshine
Hey bloody sunshine, I haven’t been smiling much now lately
Seems I’m always hung out to dry
Dust and shackles on my way, I have seen better days
And I’m not sure I’d like to see it now, where this road is winding to

Please bring me home
Cause I don’t wanna be alone
I don’t wanna be alone

Oh bloody sunshine, I have been worried ‘bout my mind
You see I forgot the names and places; there are traces of the strain upon my face
He is me and me is he and I feel a little dizzy

Please bring me home
Cause I don’t wanna be alone
I don’t wanna be alone

There could be worse surroundings than sitting at a fireside and with a sight like this,
But nonetheless, I do confess, I miss my home
Don't wanna come home with an empty heart
So I gotta get home, get home, home
Track Name: Freedom and its enemies
The man came and took their land away
And he’s cut everything that was holding erosion at bay
And the poor people still paying for his mistakes
They don’t get what they’ve done to the world

Cause the man came and took their Gods away
And he gave them a new one to pray to instead
So they bow and they bend and they plough for the heaven sent
They don’t get what they’ve worked for in this world
Poor man lives his life out in hurt
Poor man lives his life out in the dirt

On arrival, this very memory of a writing of a distant kind was running through my mind
The kind that makes a man misunderstand, mistake reflection for light
Cause I thought I’d read it all bout freedom and it’s enemies
And I thought I had it figured out, the fault to easy to see
Cause reading’s not the same as seeing and only seeing what I saw could I understand

Kids:
Don't let him tell you, it's not for his profit that he made us do what he did
No one asked him to take the world on his shoulders if doing so he'd smoulder us

And though I meant well, I just wanted to help, but I might have failed
So I'm worried about, I wonder about
What about the kids
What about the little ones
What about the daughters and the sons
Of those who can't stand up for their loved ones
Too scared to face the teacher, the preacher that treat you like dirt

Kids:
Don't let him tell you, that it's not for his own sake that he burdened himself like Jesus
No one asked him to take on the part of an Angel, especially when he gave us only hell

I know well, everyone defines hell, I had to stop it still
After the battle, the threats, the police, the abuse, in the end
Unsatisfying truth
So I wonder about, I worry about
What about the kids
What about the little ones
I wonder what they have become

What about Diego, what about Osver, what about Emilio
What about Mercy, what about Milagros, what about Maria
What about Konrad, what about Jackson, what about Duban
What about Joni, what about Hitler, what about Milton
Track Name: Out of the Wild
So we all dream of taking a road but a different one
Away from the meaningless things we would have said and done
A walk-off from the breaking need of being in the long run
And we’re dreaming, and a-dreaming, and a-dreaming, and a-dreaming
Of what we could become

So we all dream of somehow cutting ourselves loose
From the noose ‘round our necks and the roots that keep us tied to the ground
A cut-off from the countless things around that are keeping us bound
And we’d be floating, and a-floating, and a-floating, and a-floating round
In this state that we would chose

Cause we all wanna get a little bit of the high
And we all wanna go into the wild
We wanna be out of our minds
We wanna get out of our time
We wanna go into the wild
We don’t wanna be cancered by compliance
We don’t wanna cry no more
We don’t wanna be lancers to their violence
We don’t wanna try no more

So we all dream of turning our backs and not turning back
Away from this life that would have slowly seen us emptied and wrecked
A fuck-off to the ones who thought that they could keep us in check
And we’re running, and a-running, and a-running
But only god knows why and where

Cause we all wanted just a bit of the high
And we all went off into the wild
But now
We wanna be back in our minds
We wanna go back to our time
We wanna get out of the wild
Cause when our cry for help is answered by the silence
We don’t wanna die no more

Leaving was the easy part my friend but here’s the end of the road
You left your load behind but what will you find
You might find when you’re alone
That happiness is only real when shared
But there’s no one, and there ain’t nothing there
And you are completely on your own
Track Name: To the end of the world #2
So I took you on a journey
So I took you on a trip
Made you hear what I have heard
The end of the world as I know it
And this new reality that I’ve been shown
You might still say I’m highly unconcerned by the real world
But I know what I’ve heard

This beautiful place
Full of sunshine and beauty and grace
And the valley stretching out
And the trees in the sunshine
Oh beautiful valley
That I made mine
I made you mine

So I took you on a journey
So I took you on a trip
I made you see what I have seen
I might not have found all that I thought there was to be sought
But this new reality it has blown me away
I’ve seen the end of the world

And this beautiful life
Full of beauty and grace and sun
Endless space calling on me
Endlessness calling me on
Oh beautiful fate
I’m no longer afraid
I see it all
I see it all
I see it all
